This is the second barrel purchased from Cosair. Loved the first one as I cranked out a Scottish Wee Heavy then a few sours. This latest barrel will see a 15%ABV Traditional Mead that should pair wonderfully with residual whiskey remaining in the barrel.

I ordered a Quinoa whiskey barrel. Those were out of stock, so I switched to a Ryemageddon barrel. The barrel arrived with without packaging (shipping label directly on the outside). The outside of the barrel had general signs of use and shipping, but were overall fairly clean. The inside of the barrel was a little dry from what I've seen from other "freshly dumped" barrels. In order to preserve the spirit flavors and aromas, I did not perform any treatments to the barrel prior to filling. Upon filing the barrel, it leaked slowly from a couple of the stave joints for about 30 minutes (total leaked volume was about 0.5 gallons).
I just pulled porter out of the barrel after 4.5 weeks of aging. Overall, the flavors are very nice. The rye whiskey and barrel flavor are low to medium (compared to 2 weeks of aging of the same beer in a single use bourbon barrel from a different source).
This is a nice barrel if you are not looking for big whiskey/spirit flavors to be imparted on the beer.
It is also worth mentioning here that 15 gallon barrels (from Corsair or other distilleries) are actually closer to 16.5 gallons, so brew enough to have the proper volume to completely fill the barrel.

After a few years of debating, I finally jumped in and bought a barrel. I wanted a full size but I just didn't have the space and production level for it. I bought a 15 gallon Ryemageddon barrel and couldn't be happier. It's solid, reasonably priced, well made and smelled wonderful upon opening. It has some surface cracking by the hole and leaked a tiny bit in one spot at first but it sealed itself quickly and looks great in my pub room. I may just come back for another.

I bought this barrel to age my stouts and other beers in. It arrived in great condition by mail. I pulled the bung out and it had a wonderful Rye Whisky smell, inside was clean and wood slightly charred.
For $125, I believe this is a great buy, seen other barrels online $200-$300. Very Happy with my purchase.

If you're looking for some awesome barrel's to add your homebrew, look no further. These ROCK!!! They're solidly built and only used once. So you can get some great residual whiskey left over and wonderful barrel character. Looking forward to aging my Scottish Wee Heavy!!

Bought a 15 gallon "Buck Yeah" barrel for aging home brew beers. Barrel is very solidly built, smells amazing, and no leaks. Great aftermarket price as well.
I recommend the Corsair barrels to any home brewer looking for an aging barrel.
